We are nominating Lauren Hill for the best sports story of the year.
Courageous, strong, determined. Those are only a few of the words that come to mind when thinking of this young girls journey over the last year. Going from a high school senior and committing to play basketball in college, to finding out that she is battling brain cancer only just a few weeks apart, is sure to be a roller coaster in itself. But that didn’t stop her – basketball is in her blood. Lauren continued to play all through her 6 weeks of radiation and study chemo. She is an inspiration to all of us here at Holloway, and now across the United States and abroad as this Ohio based story has now gone viral on the internet and on news channels everywhere.
To show our support, we participated in the #LayUp4Lauren challenge this past week. Instead of asking for participants, we wanted to show everyone what it was like to do this challenge, to show what Lauren goes through with the dizzy spells she experiences. So in case you can’t get to a gym, or have a basketball or even know how to attempt a layup – you can experience it here…..
We also had a group of youngsters from the Wapakoneta Family YMCA participate in a “modified” #LayUp4Lauren challenge. Although they may not know exactly what it means or why they were doing it, the money being raised by Lauren and her supporters may help a child like one of them some day.
